Katey Sagal
Katey Sagal, a gifted and versatile
performer capable of comedy as well as drama as well as singing, became a
household name in the 1980s when she played the character of Peg Bundy, the
brilliantly outspoken, unorthodoxated Peg Bundy in Fox's Married... with
Children (1987). The show was awarded two American Comedy Awards as well as
three Golden Globes during the series' long duration. Peg Bundy was equally
popular and well-known as Katey, and she continued to appear in sitcoms on
television. Katey also played roles that were completely opposite of the one
that initially caught her national attention. In 2008 she played the character
of Gemma Teller Morrow (the matriarch of a Hell's Angels-like California biker
group) on Sons of Anarchy (2008). Her portrayal won her an award in the form of
a Golden Globe Award in 2011 for the Best Performance by an Actress in the TV
Series Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal was the daughter of Sara Zwilling, a
singer and Boris Sagal, a noted television and film director. The Los Angeles
native began performing at age 5 and studied voice and acting at the California
Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. She worked as a waitress who
sang in her "salad" times. After performing in "The Group With
No name," she got a break when she joined forces with Gene Simmons and
KISS, a 1970s rock band. She also gained experience as a backup singer for
Simmons as well as other famous artists like Bob Dylan and Etta James. In
Bette's avant-garde stage shows in the latter half of the 1970s and into the
early 1980s she was a dynamic performer in live performances with Bette Midler.
